Reading this made me so sick!

14:29 (gmt+1) I had to read this in today's newspaper. It made me so angry, mad, furious! I don't know what to say except that I'll contact Amnesty International immedeately and ask what I can do. Things like this just can't be happening!

Tausende in Darfur vergewaltigt

Nairobi (epd/ND).

Thousands raped in Darfur

Nairobi (epd/ND). According to a research by Amnesty International women and girls in the sudanese civil war region Darfur were being raped systematically. Sexual abuse was being used as a weapon of war by the Janjawid-militia announced the Human rights organisation's Darfur-coordinator, Pollyanna Truscott, on Monday in Nairobi. Several thousand women and girls had been exposed to the brutal encroachments of the militia during the last 17 months.

Hundreds of interviews with Darfur refugees had delivered an alarming picture, it was said. Women reported of mass rapes before the eyes of their own families. Even pregnant women and chilrden had been abused brutally. Besides that the Janjawid had carried off many women and kept them as sex-slaves. To prevent them from excaping the kidnappers had broken their legs and arms.

With the rapes the Janjawid wanted to break the resistance in the villages and destroy the social bonds announced Erwin van der Borght, vice-leader of the Human rights organisation's Africa programme. Anie
